Don Juan Alvear is considered by Spiritists as the Apostle of Spiritism in the Philippines. He is revered in high esteem by any Spiritists especially in Pangasinan. Don Juan Alvear had been a Professor in the University of Santo Tomas, the oldest University in the Philippines. He quit teaching, and then he joined the revolution against the Spanish regime.He was once a Congressman and Provincial Governor of the Province of Pangasinan. As Congressman, he was one of the principal sponsors establishing the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) and the University of the Philippines (UP). When he ran as candidate for Governor of Pangasinan, all his town mates voted for him. He also wrote many books on Spiritism, He emphasized among in his scholarly written books the strict compliance to the teachings of the Holy Bible and urged Spiritists to attain perfect holiness and righteousness in order to be worthy temple of the Holy Spirit.
